Are you still in school but would be interested in gaining valuable hands on research experience? Are you unable to join a full time internship program but would be available to work from home?

This year Ocean Park accepts local and international students to join its new cognitive research program. The Park’s new ex-situ research programme involving several Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphins continues to make use of a cognitive enrichment devices to help model ways in which societies of dolphins in the wild might interact with novel objects. The programme aims to understand the age classes of dolphins most interested in interacting with these objects, to help understand the age classes at highest risk in the wild. 

Both positions are unpaid. On-site volunteers participate in daily execution of the research sessions, involving equipment preparation, behavioural monitoring, data collection and management. Remotely working volunteers mainly focus on video data review and analysis.

The program aims to provide opportunities for students to get actively involved in several ongoing research projects and gain valuable hands on experience.

Qualifications and requirements for On-site volunteers:

  • Have a positive attitude and obtain a strong willingness to learn
  • Good oral/written communication skills in English
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Ability work efficiently as well as in a team
  • Must be responsible for food, accommodation and transportation
  • Past experience with animals preferred, but not required
  • Ability to comply with OP volunteer rules and regulations

Qualifications and requirements for Remotely working volunteers:

  • Have a positive attitude and obtain a strong willingness to learn
  • Good oral/written communication skills in English
  • Computer knowledge: Excel, Word, QuickTime Player 7
  • The ideal candidate will have strong attention to details and ability to work precisely and accurately
  • Ability to comply with OP volunteer rules and regulations
